FOOD
IN THE CAPITAL

Australia's only national conference dedicated to city-region food systems

This is a very important Report from Food Innovation Australia Limited (FIAL) which for the first time recognises the potential of the agrifood sector in the Canberra Region and ACT. The estimates for the ACT line up with our own through the Canberra Region Food Collaborative. In fact, we are confident we can exceed them, such in the groundswell here particularly from grassroots food enterprises and a discerning, engaged market of consumers demanding more locally grown fresher sustainably produced product. We have the good fortune of leading universities in ANU and UC, CEAT, CBRIN and CSIRO. This means firepower for value-add innovation as well. AUSTRALIA'S ONLY NATIONAL CONFERENCE DEDICATED TO CITY-REGION FOOD SYSTEMS

Did you know that improvements to our Food System as discussed at FIC could, for a city the size of Canberra, conservatively:

  • Generate up to 3,000 jobs for the local economy

  • Increase local food purchases by as much as $400 m annually

On the 17th November 2020, Canberra played host to the RDA ACT Food in the Capital sustainable food conference program. It was the first of a series set out to connect people from across the industry including farmers, food businesses and manufacturers, community groups, thought leaders and policy makers;

On May 18, 2021 we hosted event 2 in the series, Food in the Capital 2. Held over two days,  Day 1 was an exciting exploration of urban and regional farming, logistics and social enterprises. Day 2 our delegates saw food in action, choosing either the rural or peri-urban tour showcasing local producers in the Canberra region.

On the 9th and 10th of August 2022 the story continues. We will be deep-diving into the topics that matter most to you, offering a blend of in-depth panel discussions, workshops and networking opportunities.

BE PART OF THE STORY!
